Roborovski Hamsters - Small and Speedy

Roborovski Hamster The Roborovski hamster is the newest family of hamster to be introduced as a pet. Very gentle and small (only 2 inches when fully grown), the Roborovski hamster is fast! They can be extremely difficult to catch if they escape, so be careful. They don’t normally bite, but if they seem agitated hold them gently until they calm down.

Originally found in Mongolia, the Roborovski hamster has a sandy brown back and a bright white belly. They are also characterized by white ‘eyebrows’ and whiskers – some theorize that this may be a defense mechanism as it looks as though the hamster has eyes on the back of its head!

The Roborovski hamster is a very active pet and fascinating to watch, but it doesn’t tend to take as well to handling as the other domestic breeds. Keep this in mind when deciding what hamster you want to take home with you!

Hi, i have 4 roborovski hamsters, 3 female and 1 male. They have previously had babies but for some reason have eaten them. One of them has recently given birth again but the babies have survived this time. They have fur and are occasionally starting to come out of the nest and explore. I think they are roughly 2 weeks old now - does anyone know when i can clean them out and start handling them?

I have 2 very fun Robo Dwarf Hamsters..... both males, I chose them because they were very active in the store and I got both because out of the 4 in the cage, they were running around together..... however, I recently noticed that one of them is bigger, or swelled up in the front shoulder area, is this normal? Or is he ill?

Hi,

I have two adorable Robo's. I've had them for I think 4 months, and they have been the best of friends. Now, yesterday they starting fighting (they have always been play fighting). One seems to be the alfa hammie and "puts the other one in his place" (I think he bites and he chases the other one), but the other one seems scared and makes a hissing sound when he is "attacked". They still sleep next to eachother and get along most of the time, other than these attacks.... I was hoping someone else had experienced this and can tell me if they are just going through a phase??? :x

We thought we had 3 female Robo's but it turns out we have not as one has just had babies. We found three on Friday, have moved them into a new cage today and found one is missing, there was some fur in the bottom so it looks as though it has been eaten. The other two seem fine one is huge and wandering around and the other is smaller but seems to be doing ok. Just wondering if anyone has any ideas about why the one has been eaten and whether we need to worry about the others.

i currently have three winter whites but i used to have four roborovskis.
I found them lovley hamsters but i really dont think they should be kept as pets. With thier speed and energy i find it like keeping a bird in a cage. my advice to any potential buyers would be to really think first.
