You may have seen this type of hamster cage around as they are hard to miss – brightly colored, with lots of round tubes sticking out of the tops and sides. Sections can be added over time, allowing you to create large hamster habitats. This type of hamster cage can be a lot of fun for an adventurous dwarf hamster, but can prove a bit of a tight squeeze for larger Syrians or pregnant hamsters. Even with dwarf hamsters the vertical tubes can sometimes prove too much of a challenge, so to start with it’s a better idea to get the side tube attachments.
As you might expect, this type of hamster cage is more expensive than the standard wire hamster cage. With its sealed environment, it does provide protection from drafts, although it can prove difficult to take apart and clean. Keep in mind that the basic rules of hamster cages still apply; this means that you’ll need to have at least one large area for the hamster to exercise and play in, and another area for nesting.
