Hamster Food Variety

Although your hamster can survive quite well on the basic mix and pellets, he’ll be much happier if he has a little variety in his hamster food. Fruits and veggies are a great treat for your hamster, but as with any change in their diet, be sure to introduce the new food slowly – a small piece once or twice a week to start.

Drastic changes to a hamster’s diet causes stress which, as we know, leads to illness. Never feed fruits or vegetables to a hamster that’s suffering from diarrhea, and be sure to keep an eye on your hamster for signs of diarrhea after you introduce fruits and veggies to his diet. Bear in mind that perishables are only good for a short period of time, so be sure to remove any remaining fruits and veggies from the cage after a few hours.
