Hopeful you have been able to handle your hammie by this time. what I did with mine is left her alone for a few days after getting her and then every time she saw me I gave her a little treat and talk to her then she slowly got use to me being around and then I started handling her .

yeah i know you probaly figured it out but just let him adopt to the new home and pet him gently when you want but make sure your hand is cove for in case he trys to bite hope things worked i hope this work for others too who may read this
