Back when I had a syrian, I gave him baths about once a month. I used a very mild natural detergent, in a sink with a stopper, with barely above room temperature water. If you are wondering which brand, I used GreenWorks. Then, lightly dry with a face cloth, and let air do the rest.
It gets rid of the stink... for a while

you could also do 2 other things,at your local pet store there should be hamster sparys that you spray on them and thats it no rinsing or anything the other thing u could do is use a damp face cloth and hold ur hamster while the cloth is on him or her!! :) hope i helped!
PS NEVER EVER PUT UR HAMSTER IN WATER! THEY DO NOT LIKE IT!IT LOOKS LIKE THEY ARE SWIMMING BUT REALLY THEY ARE PANICING!!! :cry
