to be honest? No. these are actually the type of hamster which bite the most. For a first hamster i would suggest a winter white, as there so small you can hardly feel their bite..thats if they do bite you but they are not really bothered with people handling them- saying that they are less tolerant to being dropped etc, or another first hamster to buy is the syrian, if trained and handled correctly from a young age they are friendly hamster to have. hope that helps!

It depends what you want out of a hamster really. If you want a nice slow hamster that you can cuddle lots then its probably best to get a syrian. Chinease hamsters are lovely to watch - i have 2 boys and they get on fine. I can get them out and play with them and they will be fine - ive never been bitten by either of them. They let me check their teeth and do practically anything to them. However, they seem to bite my brother occasionally if he holds them - not sure if this is just my hamsters though. Roborovskis are lovely to watch but very hard to handle, they wont bite, theyre very fast!

My girl chinese is totally lovely, she rarely bites and loves being handled... But she is really fast. I would suggest you go to a pet shop and ask to handle one of the chinese hamsters, so you can find out if you can keep up with them :)
