Hello! I just bought a pair of Syrian hamster and would like to mate them. I've been keeping hamsters as pets for more than 4 years and I have breed my previous hamsters successfully. However, I don't know if my previous hamsters were syrian too and I understand that hamster pups would be eaten by hamsters other than their mother.

What I'd like to ask is, will my hamster (the mother) eat her own babies? What should I do to prevent the mother from being a cannibal?

Thank you.

Take a look at the "Hamster Eating Pups" entry on the menu to the left of the page. It's towards the bottom of the list. That should help to answer your questions :)
